The collection contains publicity and conference materials. Includes correspondence, advertisements, brochures, photographs and related materials for the conference, as well as list of attendees. Also includes materials related to the publishing of (including the metal die for): Three haiku, by Ruth Mortimer, printed at the Sun Hill Press, 1996. The symposium keepsake consisted of the three haiku and an origami crane placed in a round lidded box, covered with assorted pastepapers by Elisabeth Hyder of North Brookfield, Mass.

Mortimer was educated at Smith College (A.B., 1953) and Columbia University. From 1957-1975 she worked at the Houghton Library at Harvard University. In 1975 she returned to Smith as curator of rare books where she served until her death in January 1994. She was fascinated with the publishing history of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and collected editions of the text, secondary sources and the materials in this collection.
